Below is a list of tips for setting up your camera trap in the field:

  • Install the device at about 1.5 m/2 m height, tilting it slightly downwards.
  • Install the device facing north or south. Do not point the device east or west as sunrise and sunset may cause false triggers and produce overexposed images.
  • To monitor a game trail, point the device along the trail rather than perpendicularly. This allows you to see multiple animals at once if they pass in single file.
  • Avoid placing the device on a weak tree that may sway in strong winds. Try to position the camera on a stable and fixed support.
  • Clear any branches or grass in front of the device. In case of wind or high temperatures, they could cause false triggers.
  • Check the battery status before setting up the device.
  • Make sure the memory card is properly inserted.
  • Don’t forget to turn on the camera before leaving (selector in position M1, M2 or M3).
